Astronomy & Space
- Nine
Planets Very good for 2nd Year Solar System Project
& 4th Year Physics Summer Coursework.
- University
of Surrey Department of Physics Astrophysics Resource
Database.Useful stuff on AS astrophysics (although
there is more detail here than you will need)
supports a textbook written by one of their staff. Has
good links to other websites.
- NASA NASA homepage
vast if you havent visited this one
you havent lived! Difficult to know where to start!
Very good on images click on Exploring the
Universe then Stars and Galaxies
this has a link to the Hubble Space Telescope site. Or
you could try the Virtual Black Hole feature!
- NASA
Spaceflight Site What is the International Space
Station? What are living conditions like on the ISS -
food, sleep, activity. What scientific research is being
conducted on the ISS? Describe the most recent journey on
the space shuttle to the ISS?
- NASA Basics of
Space Flight
- NASA
for kids - the NASA space site for kids
- Imagine the
Universe (NASA) NASAs Imagine the
Universe science site. This gives you access to lots
of useful explanations and information.Try the
Advanced Science page too.
- NASA
Observatorium - great activities, simulations and
interactive games
- National Space
Science Data Centre Lots of useful data, e.g. click
on Astrophysics.Under Flight Mission
Information click on Listing of Flight
Missions. Here you will find an alphabetical listing
of satellites with connections to pages containing more
information.(e.g. COBE launched to study the
cosmic background microwave radiation.)
- European Space Agency
Lots of information and images available. e.g. go to
ESA programmes and click on Space
Science.Then click on Exploring Space
(top centre of page), then Reference Section
and Science Background.Try the sections on
Seeing the Universe using different parts of
the e/m spectrum, or try Black Holes.
Alternatively, still under Space Science,
choose a satellite from the list under Science
Missions or just browse the Multimedia
Gallery.
- American Institute
of Physics, Center for History of Physics Click on
Moments of Discovery (in Exhibit
Hall list) and then on A Pulsar
Discovery. This gives you details of how the optical
source of a pulsar (in the Crab Nebula) was first
identified in1968. It includes tape recordings actually
made at the time of the discovery as well as images of
the Crab Nebula using different types of e/m radiation.
